North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has been in the headlines of international news lately. This may not seem like a big deal, but he is not in the news for his usual shenanigans.

Last Friday, South Korean President Moon Jae-in and Un settled on an agreement to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula and formally end the Korean War. Now, Un has decided to meet with President Trump.

This does not sound like the typical Un. Is it safe to say he has become…reasonable?

Whether the answer to that question is yes or no, be skeptical.

There is absolutely no evidence that supports the fact that Kim Jong Un has completely changed his attitude toward us and South Korea. The same dictator that has censored his people from the world, raged war against his neighboring country for years, and consistently threatened the United States with nuclear weapons could not make a complete 180 degree turn in a matter of weeks.

Do not let his smile and “sincere” handshake with Moon Jae-in trick you into believing he has changed.

Do not let the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula trick you into believing he has changed.

Do not let Trump’s positive tweets about the upcoming meeting trick you into believing he has changed.

The moment we stop being skeptical of Kim Jong Un is the moment we will be right back where we started with North Korea.
