This weekend the DePauw track teams will host the DePauw Indoor Classic. Athletes from 24 schools will visit Greencastle and compete in Saturday's meet. Senior runner Taylor Penrod said she is excited about the approaching competition.
"There isn't a school that puts on a better meet [than DePauw]," Penrod said.
Competitors come from over six different states, such as Texas and Alabama, to participate in the event.
Despite the excitement, the Tigers are not worry-free. Injuries have plagued the team all season, and as a result, the Tigers have yet to have all members of the teams participate in a meet. With the indoor qualifier less than a month away, a strong performance on Saturday will help the Tigers prepare.
"I hope to see our team really start to come together as one unit," Penrod said. She looks to improve on her seventh place finish, as she tallied in both the 1,000-meter and one-mile run last weekend.
With more members returning from injury and sickness, the team hopes to improve their personal times. Placing sixth in last weekend's meet, the 800-meter relay team feels they can make improvements. The team's members, freshmen Chris Scarver, Nijeil Anthony, Steve Wojanis and sophomore Elijah Campbell, are just beginning to get used to working with each other, and hope to better their time of 1:37.32. Campbell said their goal for the weekend is to finish with a time of 1:30.
The DePauw Indoor Classic is scheduled to start Saturday at 11 a.m.
