The celebrities have all gone home and the tents at Bryant Park now stand empty as Mercedes-Benz 2008 New York Fashion Week came to a close on Friday. This marks the United States' biggest week of fashion as 82 designers came out to show off their fall 2008 collections in style. Here are just a few of my favorite designer looks, shows and trends for next fall.

While leggings are becoming a thing of the past, do not even think about throwing out your tights. Tights were everywhere this season, from the floral patterned tights of Cynthia Rowley to the oh-so-NYC plain black tights of Ralph Lauren. My favorite tights looks included black tights with pops of bright colors. Ralph Lauren featured bright orange and red coats, while Prouenza Schouler highlighted tights with unexpected pops of color via bright accessories and pumps.

Many past trends remain when it comes to going-out styles. Sequins and metallics were still main features of evening wear, as well as the mini dresses that have flooded past seasons. My favorite mini dresses came from BCBG Max Azria and Alice + Olivia. Evening gowns also featured lots of ruffles and goddess-worthy, loose, flowing fabric. New trend watch: tartans for evening wear at Nicole Miller and Ralph Lauren.

Ladylike clothing also dominated the runways: feminine blouses were paired with clean, A-line skirts. Sheer fabrics were especially popular at Cynthia Rowley and Calvin Klein. Belted dresses, skirts and coats are here to stay, so if you haven't already, I would invest in a thin, brown leather belt. Animal prints were also a feature of many shows, especially as accessories. Both Ralph Lauren and Michael Kors were big on leopard print this season for hats, shoes and bags. Fur coats, wraps, collars and vests were also popular.

One of the best new trends to make it to Fashion Week was going green. Earth Pledge started a fashion initiative to teach the fashion industries and consumers ways to create sustainable clothing. Twenty-eight top designers participated in Earth Pledge's FutureFashion show where all the looks were created from sustainable materials including recycled fibers bamboo-based fabrics organic cottons, wools and more. The best part about these fashions is that not only are they eco-friendly, but that they are just as fashion-forward as the other pieces off the designers' runways.

My favorite show of this season was by Michael Kors. While his looks were very retro, they still felt fresh with the perfect combination of femininity, color and texture. I loved the influx of camel, cashmere and tweed. He paid an exorbitant amount of attention to detail with perfectly matched, yet unexpected accessories. After looking through the show, I found looks easily translatable for any occasion. Even better than all the excitement of Fashion Week is when the fashions shown become available for individual muses to play with, giving the fashions a whole new context and light.
