Both the men's and women's swimming teams found success Saturday in a meet at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio.
The men's team beat Wittenberg 206-93, improving to 2-1 overall.
Senior Robert Alexander won the men's 50-yard freestyle (22.07 seconds), 100-yard freestyle (48.61 seconds) and 200-yard individual medley (2:02.12) races. Alexander was also part of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay with junior Greg Nowak, senior Gerry Wallace and sophomore John Cook. Cook also won the 100-yard butterfly.
"Cook and Alexander have been phenomenal for us all year," said head coach Adam Cohen.
The team also got key performances from freshmen Josh Baugh and Chris Granger, who won the 100- and 200-yard breastroke events, respectively.
"We really had some freshmen step up," Cohen said.
The women's team also beat Wittenberg, 171.5-124.5. The team won 13 of 16 events, including two relays.
"[The win] was really exciting because we thought it was going to be a really close meet," said freshman Callie Boehme.
Boehme was the winner of the women's 1000-yard freestyle event (10:56.60), eclipsing the second-place finisher by nearly 10 seconds.
The team of sophomore Lindsay Riggs, senior Kelsey Warsinske and freshmen Sally Tabler and Katie Massey edged out the competition in the 200-yard medley relay (1:30.50).
Later in the meet, the team of freshman Elizabeth Medlock, junior Amanda Stier and seniors Katie Doogan and Maddison Hamil won the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:44.12).
"The last relay was pretty exciting because it was close until the very end," Boehme said.
Relay members Hamil and Stier also won three individual events in the meet. Hamil placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke, 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle, while Stier's wins were in the 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard breaststroke and 100-yard freestyle.
Both teams will host Wheaton College and Transylvania University on Friday, Nov. 16.
