Both the men's and women's swimming teams had tough weekends as both lost meets Saturday at Washington University to drop their records to 1-1.
On the men's side, the Tigers lost a 159-141 battle. Senior Rob Alexander paced the Tigers with victories in two categories. Alexander took first in both the 100-yard butterfly event with a time of 51.3 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle with a 47.37 time.
Sophomore John Cook also won a pair of events for DePauw, taking the 200-yard freestyle event in 1:44.90 and the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.62. Sophomore diver Adam Wishart also had a good weekend, taking home two gold medals in the one-meter and three-meter events with 216.80 and 235.00 points respectively.
"We've had high expectations with every meet and practice we participate in," said freshman Chris Szynal. "We have had some pretty intense practices especially throughout fall break and that has shown with a very close loss to one of the best teams in the nation."
The women also dropped their meet against Washington with a 155-129 score. Freshman Callie Boheme led the Tigers with a school record 5:16.03 time to win the 500-yard freestyle event.
Other winners for DePauw included senior Katie Doogan with a 1:59.59 time in the 200-yard freestyle, junior Amanda Stier in the 200-yard butterfly with a 2:10.30 time and senior Maddison Hamil with a 25.38 second performance in the 50-yard freestyle.
"We are really happy with the way the season has gone so far," said sophomore Dani Johnson. "We have a very positive outlook on the rest of the season."
The men's meet against Wabash tomorrow has been postponed to a later date due to a freshman swimmer's death at the school. Both the men and women will have an away meet against Wittenberg University on Saturday.
