INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Colts hope eight-time Pro Bowl receiver Marvin Harrison and starting cornerback Marlin Jackson will be back in the lineup this week.
Coach Tony Dungy said Harrison was held out of Sunday's game in Carolina to give his sore left knee more rest. It was the second time in four weeks Harrison has been held out of a game after he was injured against Denver in Week 4.
Dungy gave players' an off day Monday and said he had not yet met with the team's doctors before speaking to the media but acknowledged that Harrison needed some extra rest this week.
"It was one of those things where he played about 35 plays against Jacksonville and it ended up being sore and there wasn't really any improvement," Dungy said.
Team president Bill Polian was more definitive about Harrison's status later on his weekly radio show.
"I would think Marvin would be back and ready to go on Wednesday," Polian said.
Dungy and Polian were also optimistic that Jackson and linebacker Freddy Keiaho would play Sunday against unbeaten New England.
Keiaho, a first-year starter, sat out the Carolina game with a head injury. Keiaho has missed three games this season and has played most of the year with a dislocated right elbow.
Jackson injured his neck in the third quarter at Carolina after jarring the ball loose from Panthers tight end Jeff King. Jackson did not return to the game although Dungy said he tried to.
Neither Dungy nor Polian appeared worried Monday that Jackson would miss the Patriots game.
"Marlin seemed fine on the plane last night, so I don't think that will be a problem," Polian said. "Other than that, I don't know. There didn't seem to be anything glaring, where you would say you lost a lot of sleep over it."
