The volleyball team pushed its winning streak to five games with two non-conference victories this past weekend.
The Tigers first faced Illinois College Saturday, winning 3-1, then swept Bluffton University 3-0.
"We've really been pushing areas of our game that we identified needed to move forward," said senior Sarah Drew, who had 21 assists in the match against Illinois. "The past two weeks of play have been a great opportunity for our team to put into practice all the areas of play we've been working on, and we're starting to see some improvements."
Sophomore Katey Larson led the Tigers with 12 kills against Illinois, and freshman Ali Smith led the team with 24 assists.
The team was without senior Kim Hamer, who leads the team in kills for the season.
"We're very fortunate to have a team that is full of depth, and that definitely showed in our play," said sophomore Kate Carrico. "We had a few offensive miscommunications about which play was being run, and we need to work to fix those problems before heading to Texas [this weekend]."
The Tigers knew they needed to improve their serve play.
"We've worked hard on it in practice and it is great to see our focus on the little things pay off in the matches," Carrico said.
Against Bluffton, Erin Cunningham led DePauw with 14 kills, while Drew had 34 assists and 15 digs.
The win streak has helped the Tigers stay focused and continue aiming for their goals down the line.
"It has been great for us because we've gained a large part of our confidence back after we lost a few matches," Drew said.
The team's next match-up will be at Trinity (Tx.) University this weekend, where it has four SCAC matches against Austin College, Southwestern University, Centre College and Trinity.
