As noted in our page 3 story today, college students comprise a significant portion of the travel market. The college years are one of the few times in a student's life when he or she is probably relatively free to do so. In other words, most college students do not have dependants - that is, no mortgage and no ties to a career. It is the ultimate time to travel, and DePauw offers many ways for students to do so. Between Winter Term trips, study abroad programs, internships and cooperative programs with other universities, there are opportunities abound for students to utilize, both domestically and internationally.

While funding for such trips and studies is often an issue, numerous scholarships - not necessarily awarded by the University - can be used for any type of academic demand, including travel. Some of the larger scholarships, too, have built in the cost for the student recipient to travel.

Travelling anywhere - within the U.S. or outside of it - enables students to broaden their perspectives toward other cultures and ways of life. This is truly the type of learning that can't come from books.

While the chance to go on an official University sanctioned trip may not be available to some, even a road trip with friends may provide the same kind of experience. With extended breaks in the fall and spring, such trips can be both practical and affordable.
