Freshman Ryan Rush was arrested Sunday morning for alcohol- related violations, making him the second of the year for freshman students.
Associate Director of Public Safety Angela Nally confirmed that Rush was arrested by the Greencastle Police Department on Sept. 23 at 2:10 a.m. Sergeant Charles Inman of the Greencastle Police arrested Rush on the charges of public intoxication and minor in consumption.
The incident report filed by Sgt. Inman said Rush was arrested on the 500 block of Locust Street. When he interacted with Rush, Inman noted that Rush "appeared nervous and uneasy" and that his eyes were noticeably blood-shot. The report said Inman voluntarily agreed to a blood alcohol test and registered .189.
Inman said in the police report that Rush was "quite cooperative, advising he understood and respected law enforcement actions."
Rush, a member of DePauw's soccer team, told Inman on the way to the Putnam County Jail that he was on probation from the University. Inman's report said Rush was worried the University would take further action "upon his student athlete status."
Inman is the second freshman to be arrested this year, with the first arrest on Wednesday, Sept. 12.
During the 2006-2007 school year, two freshmen had been arrested by Sept. 5, 2006. This year's freshman class took about three weeks longer to reach that total.
Rush declined to comment on the incident.
